In 2018, the US Navy ordered 44 of the tilt-rotor aircraft under the service designation CMV-22B for rescue missions and supplying aircraft carrier groups on the high seas. Compared to the standard version, which is used by the Marine Corps in large numbers, the Navy version was given a longer range thanks to the installation of additional tanks. One of the four units currently deploying this Navy variant is the "Fleet Logistics Multi-Mission Squadron 40" (40th Fleet Logistics Multi-Mission Squadron), which was only newly established in 2022 and is assigned to the Atlantic Fleet.
