Description
A detailed overview of the development of strategic bombers in the USSR from the end of World War II until the collapse in 1991. Over 500 b/w and colour photos, most of them still unknown in the West, show the various bomber types and thus the entire technical development of this type of weapon, which was so important for the "nuclear deterrent". In addition to the purely aeronautical aspects, the organisation of the Soviet air fleets, bomber divisions and bomber regiments is also dealt with and it is shown which bomber types were used at which time. Important operations of strategic bomber units during the Soviet war in Afghanistan, significant Cold War manoeuvres over international waters in the vicinity of the "potential enemy" or the aerial shadowing of NATO warships are also documented.
