Prince Eugene of Savoy (French: François-Eugène de Savoie, Italian: Principe Eugenio di Savoia-Carignano, German: Prinz Eugen von Savoyen; 18 October 1663 21 April 1736) was a general of the Imperial Army and statesman of the Holy Roman Empire and the Archduchy of Austria and one of the most successful military commanders in modern European history, rising to the highest offices of state at the Imperial court in Vienna.
Eugen Franz, Prince of Savoy-Carignan (French: François-Eugène de Savoie-Carignan, Italian: Eugenio di Savoia-Carignano; * 18 October 1663 in Paris; 21 April 1736 in Vienna), known as Prince Eugene, was one of the most important commanders of the Habsburg Empire, whose position as a great power he significantly expanded. He was commander-in-chief in the Great Turkish War from 1697. Along with the Duke of Marlborough, he was commander-in-chief of the anti-French coalition during the War of the Spanish Succession (1701-1714). After the resumption of the war against the Ottomans (1714-1718), he secured Austrian supremacy in south-eastern Europe. In addition, he was for a long time President of the Court War Council as well as a diplomat and held other high offices of state. As a builder and art collector, he was one of the most important patrons of his time. - Wikipedia -
