Description
Europa, early 16th century.
During deployment, advance or retreat, piles were vulnerable to surprising attacking cavalry, especially on the flanks. To defend themselves, a multi-linked formation of spearmen was formed, who extended their spears towards the horsemen at an angle of about 45 degrees. In order to increase stability, the long spears were rammed into the ground at the rear end and weighed down with the rider's own body weight. If the horseman showed any weakness, he was attacked with pole weapons or bidenhands.
Our series shows lansquenets in defensive postures typical of this tactical situation and in attack positions.
