Tecumseh (actually Tecumtha or Tikamthi 'The Ducking Mountain Lion'; * 1768 in Ohio; 5. October 1813 in Moraviantown, Ontario) was a well-known political and military leader of the North American Indians of the Shawnee tribe, who enjoyed a very high reputation among his fellow men during his lifetime and is still widely received today. Throughout his life, he pursued the dream of forming a great Indian alliance that would be strong enough to stand up to the white settlers and force them to make peace.
