The Russian two-seater Ka-52 Alligator combat helicopter is a further development of the single-seater Ka-50 Black Shark. By adding a second crew member - a navigator and weapons operator - the helicopter's capabilities were expanded. The Ka-52 prototype completed its maiden flight in 1997, and the first production aircraft were delivered to Russian Army Aviation in 2011. To destroy ground targets, the helicopter is armed with a 30 mm 2A42 aircraft cannon and 80, 122 and 240 mm calibre unguided rockets and can carry bombs, cannon containers and other weapons weighing up to 2 tonnes. In addition, the Ka-52 is capable of deploying Ataka anti-tank missiles with laser homing heads and engaging enemy aircraft with Igla-V air-to-air missiles.
