The IAR-80/IAR-81 fighter aircraft was as legendary in the history of Romanian military aviation as the PZL.37 "Los" and the PZL P.11c in red and white chequered aviation. In fact, it had much in common with the latter aircraft type, as the fuselage used a slightly modified fuselage section with a tailplane derived from the Polish PZL/IAR P.24E fighter aircraft.
