This sergeant wears the uniform of the Re?giment de Royal DeuxPonts Chasseur as specified in the 1779 ordonnance. Chasseurs were placed on the far-left flank and termed Compangie de Chasseurs. In October 1780 the regiment arrived in the Yorktown area just as the siege began and was placed on the center left of the line between the Re?giment de Bourbonnais and Re?giment de Soissonnais. The regiment greatly distinguished itself at the siege, especially the 400 men led by Guillaume Deux-Ponts in the October 15th attack on the British redoubts in cooperation with a similar movement by Marquis de Lafayette on the right.
