A volume from the "Trackpad in the Field" series. The Type 16 Mobile Combat Vehicle (16 MCV) is a wheeled armoured vehicle of the Japanese Ground Forces (JGSDF). The vehicle is air-transportable and has high mobility on the road to enable rapid deployment to strategic locations and air transport. The main armament is the same 105 mm gun as the Type 74 tank, which enables it to destroy enemy armoured vehicles by direct fire. The fire control system is based on that of the Type 10 tank, so that high-precision firing is also possible while travelling. The 16 MCV exchanges data between vehicles and units via a field communication system and battlefield information software. The Type 16 MCV is deployed in reconnaissance battalions and rapid deployment regiments in divisions/brigades of the JGSDF.
