Scriptorium (Latin scriptorium) is the term used to describe the writing rooms that have developed since late antiquity, usually located in monasteries, where sacred and sometimes profane texts are duplicated by hand. In scholarly literature, scriptorium is also used as a synonym of writing school for the scribes who worked there and to characterise the origin of their products: äHandwriting from the ůô scriptorium. Mostly, the scriptorium was an integral part of a monastery. - Wikipedia -
