This "Guide to History: High North" attempts to answer these and many other questions. It begins with a look back at history. This is followed by articles on climate change, mineral resources, geostrategic challenges, the interests of the major powers and coastal states, and, last but not least, the concrete implications for NATO and the German Armed Forces. The "Guide to History: The Far North" was produced in cooperation with the Centre of Excellence for Operations in Confined and Shallow Waters in Kiel. It brings together contributions from experts in various academic disciplines who write about the history and societies of the region, as well as analyzing current conflicts and challenges. The volume includes numerous images, maps, graphics, and a comprehensive appendix.
