The author covers the flight suits, flight helmets, goggles, parachutes, life vests, oxygen masks, boots, gloves, and more, in more than 700 images, offering full coverage of this long-overlooked topic. Nearly one third of the book combines wartime text and images, including rare period color, show Italian air crews wearing a variety of Italian and German flight gear. The rest of the books is filled with color photography to show full views of original clothing and equipment, as well as close-up details of manufacturers marks and labels, zippers, buttons and snaps, and insignia. Though the book concentrates on flying gear and clothing, the last two chapters do cover a bit of insignia, such pilot badges and formation patches. This, however, was clearly not the focus of the book. The strength of this work is in illustrating flight gear and clothing in a way that a collector can learn to recognize these items.
