This book is much more than the planes he flew - if you're looking for an analysis of which was the best fighter plane, keep looking. There is some of that here, but most of the emphasis is on the people he flew with, his thoughts and experiences rather than the technical aspects of being a pilot. He attributes all of his successes to three simple factors - duty, faith and responsibility. Here was a man who lead from the front, who was always more comfortable with his ground crew or fellow pilots than the brass. A soldier's soldier, he was an old fashioned hero - humble, modest, one who takes all of the blame and shares the credit.
