William Lendrum "Billy" Mitchell was initially a Major General in the US Army, but after his retirement in 1926 he was instrumental in the expansion of the American Air Force until 1936. The twin-engine, medium-weight B-25J bomber was named after him. The B-25 bombers were deployed in the Second World War from 1940 and were used by several factions.
