The land of Dithmarschen was at that time a prosperous, independent peasant republic. The clothing was traditional, but richly decorated. The jumping sticks were used to cross the drainage ditches. This series can be used, for example, to depict a peasant wedding. The groom demonstrates "ditch jumping" as a wedding ritual in front of the seated bride's father and bride (with bouquet of flowers). Peter Swyn, the leader of the peasants, attends the party together with his wife. Engraving: Lecke.
