Self-loading weapons appeared during the First World War, while the soldier armed with a carbine still had to reload or repeat the action himself. A lack of resources and production capacities prevented the introduction of the self-loading rifle as a mainstream weapon in the Wehrmacht during the Second World War. Thus, the Carbine 98K remained the standard rifle of the German compatriot until the end of the war.
