It was not only Barkas or IFAs that drove on the territory of the former GDR. In the course of so-called compensation deals - to balance the foreign trade balance - vehicles were repeatedly imported from Eastern Bloc countries, such as Czech Tatras and Skodas, Russian SILs and SISs, and even airfield LFs from Magirus. Of course, most of the fire brigades were equipped with domestic vehicles; as a rule, the officials assigned the vehicles to those who needed them.
Critically researched and extensively documented in numerous historical photos, the author offers in this volume a comprehensive overview of the fire engines common in the GDR.
