Our standing-at-attention Bagpiper is wearing 'No. 1 Dress Scots Guards Piper Uniform' comprising the all-black Highland tunic complete with silver buttons in groups of three with white piping on collars, cuffs and shoulder wings. His tartan plaid and kilt are in 'Royal Stewart' pattern while his hosetops are in black and red with white military spats. On his head is the traditional 'Feather Bonnet', a type of military head dress used almost exclusively by the Scottish Highland infantry regiments of the British Army from about 1763 until 1914. Today only pipers and some drummers wear the 'Feather Bonnet' although drummers in the Scots Guards wear the equally traditional tall, black bearskin the same as all other officers and men of the Foot Guards regiments.
