This ninth publication in the "Military Vehicles Archive" series tells the 85-year history of Alvis. The company was founded in 1919 and was originally known primarily for luxury cars. A handful of armoured vehicles were produced in the 1930s, but it was not until the post-war years that Alvis began producing military vehicles in large numbers; the six-wheeled Saladin, Saracen, Salamander and Stalwart hardly need introduction. The text also looks at the CVR(T) tracked vehicle and those vehicles that became part of the Alvis portfolio as a result of acquisitions, including the Warrior and the Hägglunds Bv206 family. Several changes of ownership are described as well as the twists and turns of the last decades of the 20th century. The Alvis name and the distinctive red triangle logo were finally replaced in 2004.
