Based on the reliable and tried-and-tested technology of the Czechoslovakian Panzerkampfwagen 38(t), it went into production from the second half of 1943 onwards to equip the German Army with a light tank destroyer characterised by a low silhouette, good frontal armour and effective firepower, ensured by the installation of a 7.5-cm gun in a closed casemate. Other key factors that shaped its development were the low production costs, as well as the speed and simplicity with which these tank destroyers could be mass-produced. The Jagdpanzer 38(t) Hetzer entered service in the second half of 1944 and proved to be extremely effective and lethal, primarily due to its low profile, which made it difficult to spot when well camouflaged ? even for the most powerful Allied vehicles.
