The Messerschmitt Bf 109 single-seat fighter aircraft is without doubt one of the best-known fighter aircraft of the Second World War and can be regarded as one of the symbols of the Luftwaffe. During the course of the conflict, it was regularly improved in terms of engine power and armament in order to continue to compete with more modern aircraft with higher flight performance. Together with the Focke-Wulf Fw 190, it formed the backbone of the Luftwaffe's fighter units. The most famous German fighter pilots flew on the Bf 109 and achieved a significant number of aerial victories. Among them, we particularly remember the pilots of the famous Jagdgeschwader 52 and the most successful flying ace of the Second World War: Erich Hartmann.
