A large number of models of the Douglas DC-9 in Swissair's colours have been produced over the years. It was the main model on short and medium-haul routes for just over two decades, from 1966 to 1988. No fewer than 22 examples of the stretched DC-9-30 were in service with Swissair - including HB-IFW as a special example: it was the only full freighter in the Swissair fleet and was taken over by Douglas as such in 1969. In Switzerland it was decommissioned again in 1984, but that did not mean the end for this DC-9 freighter: to this day (as of January 2025), it is still used for cargo flights, now registered in Mexico.
