In February 1967, Rudolf Heym, who was born in Erfurt, photographed his first steam locomotive: it was a 93 827. The heavy snowfall in Zella-Mehlis helped him to camouflage it, because photographing trains of the Deutsche Reichsbahn was still strictly forbidden at that time. Since then, he (and many others) have never let go of the subject. The photographs in this book show the DR in all its diversity, as well as the lives of the people who worked there and the passengers.
Rare, large-format b/w and colour photos of railway operations in the former GDR. A book of railway pictures that crosses the border to an art book.
