The Anglo-Saxons were a Germanic people that migrated to the British Islands around the V century. They inhabited the area equivalent to actual England and developed a culture that was the result of them mixing with the previous Romano-British people. The end of their hegemony was marked by the Danish invasions and, in special, the Norman conquest of the Island in 1066.
During the early days, the Anglo-Saxons came to Britain in migration waves and settled in diverse territories, sometimes by force, sometimes through defense agreements with the previous inhabitants. That led to a fragmentation and many small kingdoms were created. Among these kingdoms, Mercia gained such military superiority over the others that even the Frankish Emperor Charlemagne recognized one of their leaders, Offa, as a king.
Our miniature carries the weapons and equipment that a Mercian warrior could have used, with a mixture of Romano-British and Nordic elements.
