With the acquisition of the Grumman S-2F Tracker, the Italian Air Force finally had an aircraft specifically designed and built to combat underwater threats. In just over twenty years (1956-1978), the Trackers of the three groups equipped with them - the 86th, 87th and 88th - took part in numerous national and NATO exercises and earned the esteem and respect of all the other armed forces with which they co-operated. They also carried out countless SAR (Search and Rescue) missions, helping to save many lives. This volume not only traces the operational use of the Tracker, but also pays tribute to all the men who flew the aircraft.
