A large contingent of air forces from 13 NATO countries took part in the new NATO exercise series "Flag 2024" in Ramstein from 30 September to 11 October 2024. This extensive and complex exercise centred on the Andravida base in the western Peloponnese, where the last Phantom aircraft of the Greek Air Force are stationed. "Flag" exercises date back to 1975 and paved the way for an entirely new type of fighter training designed to help the USAF "train in combat". In general, "red flag" exercises are air combat exercises conducted in multiple scenarios to create realistic combat situations. Based on the traditional designations of red, i.e. enemy, and blue, i.e. friend, air forces are differentiated into those that simulate air defence units acting against offensive or enemy units. Over 130 fighter, fighter-bomber and support aircraft took part in this first edition.
