Konzeption, Organisation, Aufstellung. Volume 3 of the series "Security Policy and Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Germany" published by the Military History Research Office. After the first broad evaluation of sources, the conception and structure of a new German Army within the framework of NATO can be traced. To this end, the German approaches to modern land forces are analysed in the tension between nuclear deterrence and conventional alliance defence. The special feature of the German army contribution was the concept of mobile warfare, which was intended to reduce the unilateral dependence on nuclear weapons. The build-up of conventional formations and their re-equipment in the course of strategy development in NATO is reflected in the necessary adjustments of changing army structures and modernised armament. However, these continuous changes were also accompanied by problems of personnel recruitment and human resources management. Some b/w photos. 821 pages.
