The Allied air raid on the oil refineries of Ploesti in Romania on 1 August 1943 is one of the best known and most costly failures of the Allied air forces during World War II. The Allied High Command had hoped that a success would have a lasting impact on German oil supplies and thus severely disrupt the German Reich's ability to continue the war. This richly illustrated volume uses photographs, some of which are still unknown, to show the planning, course and consequences of this attack.
