Pappenheim assumed supreme command of the severely endangered left wing of Wallenstein's army during the Battle of Lützen in November 1632 and drove the Swedes back. His intervention could have been decisive. However, he was seriously wounded almost immediately, whereupon his horsemen panicked and broke off the attack. Throughout the battle, Pappenheim's horsemen failed to regain discipline. His body servant Jakob Ehinger took Pappenheim to Leipzig, where he died in the early hours of 17 November 1632. (Wikipedia)
