Roman Troops in Germania 9 AD. This is a detailed description of the Roman troops that were completely routed by rebellious Germanic tribes in a cauldron battle in the autumn of 9 AD in the area the Romans called "Saltus Teutoburgiensis", Teutoburg Forest. The legionaries and auxiliary troops under the command of Publius Quinctilius Varus, commander-in-chief of the Rhine army, are reconstructed as realistically as possible on the basis of the current state of historical and archaeological research, with special reference to the ground finds of Augustan military camps in Germania and the battlefield at Kalkriese.
