The British House of Windsor is - as is not generally known - of German descent. During the First World War, the original name "House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha" was abandoned, which the royal house had used in Great Britain since 1840. From 1714 to 1837, the Electorate of Hanover and the Kingdom of Great Britain were also linked by a king in personal union. The House of Hanover was likewise a German-born royal dynasty that succeeded the House of Stuart as kings of Great Britain. The authors of this richly illustrated work set out to trace the German-born queens and kings on the British throne. They show the close connection between the two nations and the resulting peculiarities. The book thus covers 300 years of living aristocratic and cultural history in both countries
