Description
After describing the political and military situation in Europe around 1800, the publication is entirely devoted to Napoleon Bonaparte's Italian campaign in 1800, with central themes being Napoleon's stay in Dijon, the crossing of the Great St Bernard by the French army and, of course, the course and consequences of the important battle of Marengo, in which the future French emperor only narrowly escaped defeat. Apart from this main topic, the booklet deals with a painting by the French painter Félix Philippoteaux ("Le dernier Banquet des Girondins"), the role of General Desaix at Marengo, as well as the uniforming of the Saxon army between 1806 and 1815.
