In an old farmhouse in Saxony-Anhalt about to be demolished, an unusual find is made: Packed in shoeboxes are one and a half thousand letters and postcards written between 1914 and 1945: a family's soldier's and home country mail. Senders and recipients were fathers and sons at the front, mothers and wives. The letters reveal how the war intervened in the lives of ordinary people, how it shaped their thoughts and feelings. They are touching documents and illuminating testimonies of the times.
