Volume 1: text volume; volumes 2-3: plate volume. The first edition was published in several instalments between 1935 and 1942. The text was revised and considerably expanded for this 2nd edition using the clothing regulations in force at the time and notes by Paul Pietsch that were still available. The uniform illustrations contained in the plate volumes are elaborately printed in up to eight colours on special paper. The text volume contains comprehensive information and explanations. Never before have these uniforms been illustrated so extensively and in such detail.

Some of the uniform illustrations in the plate volumes were colour corrected by the previous owner.
