The history and development of cap bands in the Royal Prussian Navy, the Navy of the North German Confederation and the Imperial Navy. The reader is provided with information on unofficial productions, manufacture and management of the cap bands from requisition to issue to the troops. An alphabetical collector's list with price evaluation as well as a comprehensive bibliography complete the volume.
The authors' aim was to provide a complete record of all German naval cap bands, to indicate the period of wear and to provide information on their introduction or abolition. In particularly interesting cases, the decision-making processes of the naval authorities responsible for the cap bands are also shown by means of excerpts from the files of the Reichsmarineamt, the command offices and the naval clothing offices.
