This book is a six-chapter overview of the development and history of the Spanish mounted "Guardia Civiles" from its foundation in 1844 to the present day. It describes the background to the formation of this force, the organisation and units of the Guardia Civiles, their role in campaigns, service on foot and on horseback, the uniforms and weapons of the members of the Guardia Civiles and finally their present appearance and tasks.
The work is illustrated with some bw and mainly colour photographs of weapons and uniform parts as well as 17 colour reproductions of paintings by Augosto Ferrer-Dalmau.
