Prussian correct, Berlin witty. Like no other, Franz Krüger pictorially staged the Berlin society of his time. His two versions of the "Parade Unter den Linden" are particularly famous, depicting not only prominent citizens of the city, portrayed unerringly by Krüger, but also folk types such as cobbler boys or Spreewald wet nurses. The catalogue accompanying the exhibition at Charlottenburg Palace in Berlin (4 April to 1 July 2007) illustrates Franz Krüger's career and highlights his virtuoso draughtsmanship, which ranks equally with Schadow and Menzel.
