In 1812, Parisian police agent Karl Pivou is tasked with investigating a murder on Napoleon I's train to Moscow. He follows the soldiers on their journey through Russia and gets on the trail of an unscrupulous gang of counterfeiters. But what begins as ordinary investigative work soon turns into a case of unknown significance. Pivou is unexpectedly confronted by the Italian nobleman Christoph Di Corvo with the 500-year-old Veltro prophecy in Dante's "Divine Comedy "Q, which has yet to be deciphered. Pivou must experience for himself what it means to descend into the nine circles of Dante's hell.
