Description
Brave Swiss - they could be sure of their recognition. For several years they were reliable allies of Napoleonic France. In particular, the Swiss were highly credited for their performance of duty in the Russian campaign. In Switzerland, the melody known as Beresinalied, with its old lyrics, is still present - actually referring to that tragedy in 1812. The so-called Red Swiss also fought on the Iberian Peninsula and in 1813 provided fortress service for the most part. In contrast, the Neuenburg battalion, known as the "Yellow", was equipped with Swiss soldiers and took part in the battles of Großgörschen, Bautzen and Leipzig. An excursus is devoted to the Swiss General Jomini.
