Description
Born in 1926, the author, like many young people, volunteered for the Waffen-SS in 1943. He and his comrades vividly describe the fierce battles in Normandy and the constant danger posed by the far superior Allied air forces, against
which the anti-aircraft defences fought a hopeless battle. Initially derided by the enemy as "Hitler's babies", the young soldiers quickly earned the respect of friend and foe alike through their high level of commitment and combat strength.
Illustrated with numerous photographs,
maps and documents, the memoirs of former members of the 4th Battery/Flak-Abteilung 12 trace the operational path of the 12th SS Panzer Division "Hitler Youth".
