David Crook joined the Royal Auxiliary Air Force in 1938 and was assigned to No. 609 Squadron, a unit that would soon distinguish itself during the Battle of Britain. During those few months, he kept a diary vividly recounting the aerial combat, victories, and tragedies that defined the daily lives of the men defending British airspace throughout the long summer of 1940. His diary, previously unpublished in French, has now been released in Great Britain.
