For 200 years, the Valley of the Kings has been one of the most important attractions for travelers to Egypt. Explorers such as Giovanni Battista Belzoni, Victor Loret, and Howard Carter not only brought fame to the desert valley, they also contributed significantly to spreading interest and fascination for ancient Egypt among the modern Western public. Last but not least, the discovery of the pharaonic tombs and the tomb treasure of Tutankhamun also established the mediating role of the young discipline of Egyptology between public interest and scientific exploration of the ancient Egyptian legacy. Between 2011 and 2014, the University of Basel Kings' Valley Project was able to archaeologically explore two previously unknown tomb complexes. These are the subject of the present publication.
