This publication is the first book of facts about weapons in Russia, providing scientific and documentary evidence for combat patterns of edged weapons used by the Russian Guards, Army and Navy in 1700-1881. For the first time, this book also contains scientific authentication for known and newly identified patterns of weapons. The sources of the wide range of weapons described in this publication are the rich collections of Russian and foreign museums: Hermitage Museum; Military-Historical Museum of Artillery, Engineer and Signal Corps; State Historical Museum; Tula State Museum of Arms; Moscow Kremlin Museums; Polish Army Museum. To identify rare and little-known patterns of weapons, the authors turned to Russian regional museums located in Vladimir, Dmitrov, Izhevsk, Krasnoyarsk, Kostroma, Omsk, Perm and Chita. Russian and foreign private collectors made a significant contribution to creating a complete selection of patterns of weapons. In addition to previously published documents, the documentary basis of this publication includes unpublished sources from the collections of Russia’s leading archives: Russian State Archive of Military History; Russian State Archive of the Navy; Russian State Historical Archive; Russian State Archives of Ancient Documents; Archive of the Military-Historical Museum of Artillery, Engineer and Signal Corps; State Archive of the Tula Region.
