Description
With the 7.5 cm M.15 Gebirgskanone System Skoda, the Imperial and Royal Army had at its disposal the most modern mountain gun used in the First World War. Army had the most modern mountain gun used in the First World War. It replaced the 7 cm M.99 mountain gun, which was already considered technically obsolete at the time of its introduction. As early as 1904, the Technical and Administrative Military Committee had been working intensively on a successor to the M.99 system, but with the M.8 and M.9 guns, only interim solutions were achieved.
Although corresponding test models were already available from the major gun manufacturers Schneider, Krupp and also Skoda, it was decided to go for a new design. With the prototype M.12, Skoda finally presented a completely corresponding gun. The gun, which was finally named the M.15, met all expectations and was used from 1915 to 1918 on all Austro-Hungarian fronts, especially on the Italian battlefield. In addition, k. u. k. Artillery formations in Turkey as well as Turkish batteries were equipped with this modern gun. From 1915 to 1918, a total of 2181 barrels and 2023 mounts were produced. The cannon was also delivered to Germany and was still in use during the Second World War.
M. Christian Ortner documents the history of this famous mountain gun in this book in an informative text and with the help of numerous previously unpublished photos.
