The first ideas and visions of artificial flying objects date back to antiquity. It was not until the 20th century - after the First World War - that it was possible to begin to address this dream of mankind not only in theory but also in practice. Above all, it was German scientists and engineers who pushed the "rocket dream" forward until 1945. Unfortunately, however, the technical potential and inventiveness of the German engineers were misdirected by the National Socialists and used exclusively for warfare.
This book tells of all the ideas, inventions and visions, as well as the people behind them, beginning in antiquity up to the end of the Second World War, and is also supplemented by 67 rare b/w illustrations.
