On June 28, 1914, a young Serbian fanatic sowed chaos by assassinating an archduke and his wife. In a diabolical domino effect, fueled by alliances, within a few months most of the nations of the old continent mobilized their armies and went to war. Since several nations possessed colonial empires, the war spread rapidly. As inflicting damage on the enemy was deemed essential, the seas and oceans became hunting grounds where ships were shelled and torpedoed without scruple. Under these circumstances, even the most imposing and swift vessels could not escape their gruesome fate. On May 1, 1915, passengers in New York boarded the Lusitania for her 202nd transatlantic voyage. Nearly 240 meters long and displacing 45,000 tonsimpressive figures for this English ocean liner, nicknamed the "Greyhound of the Seas." On the same day, an official warning from the German embassy appeared in the city's newspapers, pointing out the risks to passengers aboard British ships This publication recounts the events surrounding the sinking of the ocean liner Lusitania in the form of an approximately 56-page comic with detailed illustrations and a story by Jean-Yves Delittle. The last eight pages comprise a historical dossier on the Lusitania, containing the most important facts.
