Description
Whoever starts model railroading today (or gets back into it as an old hand) almost automatically starts with a digitally controlled railway. Most starter packs of the big manufacturers contain a digital driving device, which can serve as a basis for the further expansion of the model railway control. At this point, at the latest, the first questions arise for a beginner: What possibilities do I have and what do I have to do to use them? The same questions naturally arise for a layout owner who wants to modernise his model railway ...
This is where this book starts in a very fundamental way. Basic information on the technical function of the model railway (tracks, electricity, bits, bytes, data transmission, etc.) is conveyed independently of the manufacturer. In the next chapters, the individual components involved in (digital) operation, from decoders to detectors to control centres, are explained in detail and in an easy-to-understand manner. In the end, however, the interaction of the various components is essential for the enjoyment of the model railway. The book devotes a lot of space to the questions of what can be combined in what way and which parts are sensible and recommendable for which play or operating idea. In this way, every model railway enthusiast can decide for himself how, in which direction and with what he wants to build and expand his layout. Even more: An introduction to topics such as "Action on the layout", "Automation" or "Do-it-yourself" opens up perspectives for a long-lasting enjoyment of the model railway hobby.
