The Landshut War of Succession from 1504 to 1505 laid the foundations of the all-Bavarian duchy that later became the Kingdom of Bavaria. Maximilian I was able to distinguish himself as a general and as the head of the empire, Georg von Frundsberg acquired his first merits and Götz von Berlichingen lost a hand. His first crony and later opponent Conz von Schottenstein lived up to his reputation as a "hedge rider" and the "Bavarian Attila" devastated entire regions. As a result of the war, the military supremacy of the Electoral Palatinate, which had only existed for a short time, was lost.
The Landsknechts were able to establish themselves as a new type of warrior and proved their dominant role on the battlefield. The sites of the Landshut War of Succession, also known as the "Bavarian Feud", range from the Middle Rhine through Alsace and Lower Bavaria to Tyrol.
This book was produced in close cooperation with international re-enactment groups. It also includes colour illustrations and some of Wolfgang Braun's excellent reconstruction drawings.
Detailed illustrations of weapons, including work by Stefan Roth, are included.
