Description
An overview of the military history of the Near and Middle East in the 7th century. The focus is on the warlike events in the reign of the Byzantine Emperor Heraclius (610-641) and the fierce struggle of the Eastern Roman Empire against the Persians and finally against the newly emerging power of Islam. However, the volume does not only describe the military events, but introduces the main characters such as Heraclius, Khusro II or the Prophet Mohammed, describes important battles such as Nineveh, Yarmuk, Qadisiyah and Nahavand and describes important sieges such as those of Jerusalem or Constantinople. The composition of the three different warring parties, their tactics and strategies are explained in detail to the reader.
