Description
Nobody denies that the Roman legions were one of the most capable military units in history, essential for the expansion, defence and strengthening of the Roman Empire. However, since there is no such thing as an unbeatable army, the Romans also had to fight wars and battles that brought them themselves to the brink of destruction.
Especially in the early stages of Roman history, the Romans had to face opponents who were at least their equals. In these pages, the reader will find not only an account of the tactical and military development of the clashes with Rome's opponents, in which fortune and victory did not favour Rome, but also their antecedents and subsequent consequences.
